Dreamcast 4X Memory Card

Transferring Games

As far as we know, you need to have the Memory Card plugged into a Dreamcast controller and have the Dreamcast turned on when you want to connect to a computer. This seems to be because the memory card needs power. If you don't have it connected to a powered-on Dreamcast, you will get connection errors.

When you first get your 4X DC Memory Card only one of the pages (out of the four) will be initialized. You will have to initialize the other three pages by using the file system in the main Dreamcast menu. After these are initialized, they will work fine.

You will also notice how the four pages are indicated by the two LEDs. When you want to start transferring saves on the computer, we suggest that you get used to which page is indicated by which combination of LEDs. Keep backups of your saves when you are first getting used to this.

Now, with the release of the program DC Linker V1.0b (see below) , individual game saves can be transferred back and forth. After opening the program, select the page that you want to use and click the refresh button. If there are saves on the page, they will be displayed in the upper right corner. To save any of the saves on the current page, double click on the save to bring up the menu options. To save the game save to the computer, click on the export button and choose where to save the file.  The .bmp file can also be saved.

To upload a save from the computer to the memory card, right click in the upper right window. This will bring up a menu which will allow game saves on the computer to be uploaded to the memory card.

NOTE:  Full page saves have the extension *.dcm and individual game saves have the extension *.dci. There is also an instructions file included with the DC Linker V1.0b download.

Step by Step Instructions

Follow thses instructions if you have any problem with your memory card.

Downloading
When you click on the save on the site, you should get a window that will ask where you want to save the file. Make sure you remember where you saved the zipped game save.

Decompressing the Saved Games
Now, you must uncompressed the game save. If you don't already have the program, Winzip is the easiest program to use. You can download the program from the Winzip site at www.winzip.com. When you decompress the file (unzip), make sure you know where you are decompressing it to.

Identifying the Saved Game File
Now, you should have the game save. It will have a *.dci extension. The program, "DC Linker V1.0b" must be used to transfer these files.

Memory Card's Software

The following programs are listed from newest to oldest. DC Linker V1.0b is highly suggested to use for transferring all files. The other programs will remain on this page for reference.

DC Linker Version 1.0b
Finally, a program is available that will allow individual saves to be transferred back and forth. No more transferring full pages. Transfer saves to the memory card without deleting the saves already on the current page and also can transfer full pages. Works with all file types.

Memory Linker Version 1.00
This program will allow the 4X DC Memory Card to communicate with a computer. Use it to upload and download game saves. This program dumps the game saves in a file named "temp.dcm" in the program directory. It does this no matter what and where you specify for the game saves. This bug should be fixed in the next version.
